Sublime Spring

After the long dark of winter finally passes, the world begins to be reborn anew. Slowly at first, little hints of red, plants begin to stir. Little by little things begin to change, the days grow longer, and before you even knew it had happened the first blooms along the trees pop out. Of course, it’s not without its own challenges, the pollen comes sweeping back in, of course the lawn needs tending to. After the long dark is finally over, the color returns, and we’re treated to another Sublime Spring.

This was shot as a vertical panorama, 7 frames, closely overlapping. I had been waiting for a good time to see this again. On this particular day the stars aligned, camera secured in the back of the car. The sun and clouds were doing a little light show up in the sky. Giving a simple painterly look… Of course, we were not without some challenges, I had a load of groceries back there as well, and as it turns out, frozen things like to remain frozen. Despite the limited time I had to work, I believe it was worth the stop.

I went a little deeper with the edit than I thought I would. Taking to heart the idea of working from the top down. As in, I started with making big, full adjustments to the image, then slowly I began to focus in. Adjusting smaller and smaller sections until at the very end, I was really only doing little splashes of adjustments. In total, I spent seventeen hours with this photo, but only actually worked on it for maybe two hours. Taking frequent breaks, coming back to it is simply the best way to deal with photos like this. While yes, I could have done it all at once, the details you miss when you’re focused for to long can distort your viewers perception.
